To the beach

On Saturday I had the pleasure of Sridarhan's company for the day. He arranged to pick me up in the morning so that we could go for a trip to the beaches around Trivandrum.
He had arranged a car to drive us for the day, an Ambassador. I didn't get a picture of it, but I'll try and find one another time, there are thousands of them here.

The first place that we visited was the beach at Kovalam. This is the beach that Cat, Yvonne and I visited on our last trip out here. It looks quite different now, the large golden sandy beach has been replaced by a dark, almost black silt. The sea level is also much higher than it was before. Aparently this change is due to the Monsoon season, certainly the water was much rougher than last time. I wasn't tempted to swim.

Whilst we were there, we walked along the coast a little way to see the other beaches that were there, had an ice cream, and paddled in the sea. There were a few people trying to get into the sea, but the lifeguards were having none of it.
I think that if I was coming here on vacation, I would wait until after the monsoon season.

On the way back up the hill to the car, we stopped for fresh coconut milk, which was very cool and refreshing.

After Kovalam, we went to another beach which is near to the Airport. This one is much longer, and steeper, the sand was dark orange, and quite sharp. Here we walked along the beach trying to keep in the water, but without getting washed away. One wave nearly caught us, Sridar lost a shoe, and the lifeguards blew their whistles. But no one drowned, and Sridar's shoe came back on the next wave.

After the trip to the beaches, we had coffee and snacks in a beachside cafe, and took the car back home for a short rest before going to play volleyball.
